Job Description Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. This contract position is for a Sign Language Interpreter supporting K-12 students within a public school district in the Virginia Beach area. The assignment will primarily involve providing 1:1 interpreting services, most often with elementary students, in various school settings. Interpreters are itinerant and may provide coverage at multiple locations as needed. Familiarity with Visaphonics is preferred but not required. Location: Virginia Beach area, onsite only Duration: ASAP through June 16, 2026 Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday (part-time itinerant positions may also be available) Caseload: Primarily elementary students with a 1:1 assignment; number of schools assigned is to be determined Key Responsibilities: Provide skilled sign language interpretation services to K-12 students in classroom and related school settings Adapt to a flexible school schedule and multiple campus locations as necessary Collaborate closely with teachers, educational staff, and families to support communication access Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions Qualifications and Experience: Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification required Preferred Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher; candidates scoring above 3.0 will be considered Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in an educational interpreting role Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an educational team Knowledge of Visaphonics is a plus but not mandatory The position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students educational experiences through high-quality communication access.
