Applied Building Sciences, Inc. (ABS), a firm specializing in
forensic, structural, and civil engineering, building envelope
consulting, architecture, and human factors consulting, is seeking
engineering candidates for the role of Project Engineer (EIT) for
the Charleston, South Carolina office. Description: The ideal
candidate will be an Engineer-In-Training (EIT), with a B.S. and
M.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. The
candidate for this position should have the personal goal of
pursuing professional engineering licensure. The focus of the
position will be in forensic engineering and structural
engineering. The position will work independently and in teams with
other engineers, architects, building enclosure consultants, and
technicians. Typical work will involve: --- - - - - - - - -Field
work for forensic investigations, including travelling to sites and
conducting observations and testing. --- - - - - - - - -Production
of engineering calculations by hand and using Excel and MathCAD.
--- - - - - - - - -Preparation of reports that provide
observations, analysis, and conclusions regarding causation of
damage. --- - - - - - - - -Research and analysis of building codes
and standards. --- - - - - - - - -Gravity, wind, seismic, flood,
and rain load calculations per ASCE 7. --- - - - - - - - -Design
assignments, which will include preparation of drawings and
specifications for repair, maintenance, and restoration of
structures. --- - - - - - - - -Equipment preparation and set-up
before and during site visits, i.e., ladders, hoses, pressure
chambers, moisture meters, laser scanner, measuring devices, etc.
--- - - - - - - - -Organizing field notes, photos, calculations,
and research for the project file. --- - - - - - - - -Development
of structural analysis models using STAAD and RAM. --- - - - - - -
- -Regional and local travel for site visits. -Education: B.S. in
Civil Engineering (minimum). M.S. in Engineering (strongly
preferred). - - - -Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work in the field at project sites and in the
- Proficiency in MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- A basic level of AutoCAD and Revit training.
- Desire to learn new testing methods; new structural analysis
software; and new engineering skills.
- Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
- Must own and operate a vehicle.
- Ability to climb ladders, carry equipment (up to 25 lbs.), and
