Located in downtown Charleston - free parking! Roper St. Francis Healthcare , 125 Doughty Street , Charleston , SC Salaried Full Time (80 hrs every two weeks - benefited) , Day shift , 8:00am - 5:00pm Req# 277327 Job Summary: Reporting to the President & CEO of Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH), the Vice President & Chief Legal Officer (CLO) will oversee all legal services at RSFH and its subsidiaries. The CLO serves as a key strategic legal advisor, counselor and business partner to the President & CEO, the organization's Senior Leadership Team and Boards on all legal matters. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CLO will be involved in discussions on company direction and corporate strategies, advise on complex transactions and legal/regulatory compliance matters, oversee claims/litigation, coordinate the provision of outside counsel as necessary, and provide effective counsel on risk mitigation strategies. Collaborates with Bon Secours Mercy Health legal team where appropriate. Represents system in all regulatory and governmental inquiries in a complex health care environment. Minimum Qualifications:Education:--Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school required.Experience:

  • At least 12 years of experience at a major law firm or in-house at a hospital, health system or related healthcare organization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior or management level position in an in-house legal department or law firm.
  • Significant healthcare law experience is required, including in the areas of hospital/healthcare business operations; medical staffs and peer review; health insurance; professional liability; physician contracting; business transactions, including joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, and financings; Certificate of Need and healthcare regulatory and legal compliance matters. Must have an excellent understanding of all applicable federal and state laws and related regulations that govern the provision of not-for-profit healthcare services.Licensure/Certification:--Admission to the South Carolina Bar. If from out of state, must be eligible for and obtain admission to the South Carolina Bar upon hire under Rule 405 (Limited Certificate of Admission to Practice Law in South Carolina).Primary Source Verification: Yes ------ http://www.scbar.org or if from out of state, state licensing board from current state.Knowledge/Skills:
    • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to organize and maintain files, manage diverse assignments and projects, exercise judgment and decision making in prioritization of multiple deadlines.
    • Dynamic, self-starter with strong negotiating skills.
    • Strong business acumen and understanding of healthcare environment.
    • Ability to adhere to deadlines and work on multiple, simultaneous assignments.
    • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Willingness to take on new projects and commitments; and willingness to take on ownership of subject matter area of expertise for the system.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Demonstrated track record of leadership and managerial skills.
    • Demonstrated capability to be a Servant Leader Contacts :-- Constant interaction with internal and external customers including but not limited to: Boards of Directors, senior leadership executives, medical staff leaders, patients, families, physician provider and partners,--employees and visitors. Significant interaction with the Medical Society of South Carolina and Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) as members of the RSFH joint venture.
