Job Description Summary Surgical Observation Unit is a 21-bed
unit that cares for Phase 2 and post-op patients from the Main PACU
and OR. These patients are med-surg level of care for surgeries
including Orthopedic, Gynecology, Urology and Endocrinology. Each
will plan to discharge same day or within 23 hours post-op. Nurses
are responsible for Phase 2 anesthesia recoveries and surgery
specific care to include surgery specific discharge instructions.

Scheduled Weekly Hours 36 Work Shift Job Description Hours Per Week
: 36 Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Night shifts. 3-12 hour shifts per
week; 730p-8a. Rotating weekends and holidays. No call. Job
Summary/Purpose : Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse
II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families
and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and
practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care
and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve
desired results. Minimum Training and Education : Bachelor of
Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013
with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be
enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and
successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire
or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A
minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse
required. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations :
Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of
Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
required, either a certification from an American Heart Association
(AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent)
or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and
Healthcare Provider. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
before the end of orientation. Additional Job Description Physical

a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is
required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability
to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.

at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate
between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine
distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
