Job Description Summary The Department of Radiation Oncology at
the Medical University of South Carolina is recruiting a motivated
Medical Dosimetrist Assistant for part time work. Under the
direction of the Chief & Lead Dosimetrist, the Dosimetrist
Assistant will do the pre-work and post-work around the treatment
planning process. Importing CT Simulation scans, generating normal
tissue contours and post processing of approved treatment plans.
This person will utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology,
radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology. The
Dosimetrist Assistant will communicate with the Dosimetrist during
the treatment planning process and participate in communicating the
plan to the Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, and the
Radiation Therapist for implementation. Entity Medical University

Description: Importing CT scans and Contouring Normal Tissue
Structures = 40% Send & Obtain Previous Treatment Records=35%
Treatment Chart Preparation =10% Basic Treatment Planning Cases=15%
Imports CT scans into the treatment planning software. Generates
normal tissue contours to be reviewed by Certified Medical
Dosimetrist and the Radiation Oncologist prior to the Treatment
Planning Process. Obtain previous Treatment Records from Outside
Departments and uploads them into the departments planning
software. Treatment chart preparation & printing PDF of approved
treatment plans. Transfers data electronically to record and verify
systems and treatment Linear Accelerators. Develops basic external
beam treatment plans, under supervision of Certified Medical
Dosimetrists or physicists. Software includes Eclipse / Aria,
RayStation, Radformation Auto Contour, Velocity, Variseed and
Mobius. Equipment includes: Siemens Somatom Confidence RT Pro CT
simulators with Varian RGSC (Respiration Gating for Scanners); True
Bream Linear Accelerators with VisionRT , Radixact Tomotherapy
Machine, Gamma Knife & Elekta Flexitron HDR. Perform image fusions
with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET under
supervision of Certified Medical Dosimetrists or physicists.
Collaboration with fellow Dosimetrists, Physicians, Physicists, and
other members of the department. Aids staff in CT simulation if
needed. Participates in dosimetry related projects designed to
improve radiation therapy processes. Participate in Chart Rounds
and M&M. This represents a general outline of job duties and
functions. They are not intended to be comprehensive in nature and
other duties may be assigned as appropriate. SKILLS: Knowledgeable
in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology,
radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources,
devices, and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. Tools
include computers and software such as Microsoft Teams, Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint as well as clinical guidelines, current
medical terminology, information, and communication systems.
Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate
the exchange of information with the radiation oncology treatment
team as well as outside entities. Demonstrate high level critical
thinking and problem-solving skills. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s
degree or Certified Radiation Therapist. Current Student, Accepted
or interested in applying to a Medical Dosimetry Program.
