SummaryThe Prosthetics Clerk provides support services as receptionist for the Prosthetics Service Line at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. The incumbent is responsible for sorting, compiling, typing, and distributing requisitions, orders, and miscellaneous procurement documents. He/she has a high degree of visibility throughout the medical center and the general public as a result of direct patient care contact with the veteran population, many who are severely disabled.ResponsibilitiesMajor Duties Include: View consults for medical need appropriateness. Decipher medical language from clinicians. Receive and analyze prosthetic request forms and prescriptions from various clinical staff. Understand disability codes relative to issuance of prosthetic items. Determine legal eligibility and medical entitlement for prosthetic items and services Process purchase orders timely and accurately. Prepare and authorize simple purchase orders for a wide variety of appliances, supplies and services Maintain positive relations internally and externally. Maintain accurate timekeeping for all service staff. Record stock issued items to a patients 2319. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. GS-5: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: examining records and files to determine eligibility and entitlement for services; utilizing various computer systems to access, input, track and maintain information; skill in time management, multi-tasking and organization; processing payments and claims for reimbursement; and communication and interpersonal relation skills sufficient to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers both verbally and in writing. Administration and ManagementContracting/ProcurementCustomer Service Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
