Major Gifts Officer - -Darkness to Light, an international non-profit organization with a mission to empower adults to prevent child sexual abuse, is seeking, a Major Gifts Officer to join the Communications and Development department. - - -The Major Gifts Officer will support the Director of Marketing and Business Development, as well as the CEO, in achieving organization-wide development goals as outlined in our strategic plan. Based on these goals, the senior leadership team will look to you to design, develop and manage Darkness to Light's major gift program. This program should include the management of both existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. - - -The Major Gifts Officer position will be right for you if colleagues often comment your outgoing nature, results driven job performance, and ability to make donors and partners experience the value of their contributions to our work. An ability to connect with donors, support their philanthropic goals, and clearly communicate Darkness to Light's unique value-proposition is key. You'll be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects and persevere to the end. - -This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Business Development. -
The primary responsibilities of the Major Gifts Officer will be, but not limited to, the following: - -Internal Operations and Program Management - 30% -

  • Develop a donor pipeline with individualized goals through extensive research on giving potential through wealth screenings; -
  • Identify potential corporate sponsorship and foundation leads, collaborating with necessary team members (e.g., Grant Writer); -
  • Alongside the marketing and communications team, design and execute solicitation strategies that meet organizational objectives and donor interests, also addressing retention and upgrades; -
  • With the support of the marketing and communications team, develop print and web based planned giving materials -
  • Support the development of key fundraising products and activity to attract and retain high-net-worth supporters. -
  • Organize and maintain up-to-date records in donor database and provide key metrics and regular reporting that reflects activity - -Donor Engagement and Retention - 50% -
    • Identify potential high-value individual donors through networking (e.g., attending events, social outreach, personal networking); -
    • Grow portfolio of current major donors and prospects, which also includes donors who give to the annual fund and planned giving donors; -
    • Improve donor cultivation strategies for all donors to Darkness to Light (e.g., donor receptions, CEO meet and greets, giving society); -
    • Standardize key processes and procedures for major donor stewardship (e.g., individualized thank you letters, stewardship reports); -
    • Solicit major donors for financial gifts and planned giving opportunities-engage appropriate senior leadership to increase the likelihood of a successful solicitation and provide key executive-level support, such as briefing materials and written proposals. -
      Direct Assistance to the CEO - 20% -
      • Assist with board solicitation and support of their personal fundraising to benefit Darkness to Light; -
      • Stay up to date with all program and project funding needs and budgets for which major donor support would be critical; -
      • Provide additional support as needed (e.g., writing partnership proposals, cases for support, appeal letters and pitches) -
      • Other duties as assigned. - - - -Qualifications -
        • Bachelor's Degree and five years relevant experience preferred - otherwise ten years of relevant experience; -
        • Highly effective interpersonal skills with exceptional writing and the ability to professionally communicate with diverse personalities; - -
        • Proven track record of fundraising from high-net-worth individuals, family foundations, and corporations in the not-for-profit sector; -
        • Experience with prospecting and pipeline building for five-figure+ gifts; with proven success; -
        • Proficient use of donor database management software, Salesforce or similar CRM and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the Adobe Creative Suite -
        • Ability to thrive in an environment of both collaboration and autonomy; -
        • Proven success in managing multiple tasks and projects at once; -
        • Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential organizational and donor information; - -
