OverviewPURPOSEThis position will be mainly performing cement physical testing. It will also include the ability for all cement lab testing. To obtain and monitor, by chemical and physical tests, representative samples from Production Department of raw materials, feed, clinker and cement, and advise them of adjustments to insure a quality product with a minimum of variations.ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Practice and promote safety in such way as including but not limited to; assessing risks before starting tasks, only performing authorized activities, utilizing appropriate PPE.
  • Exercise and encourage core values including but not limited to; developing self and coaching others by inspiration and empowerment
  • Perform complete ASTM chemical and physical test on daily composite samples to insure product meets strict plant standards.
  • Perform periodic calibration and preventive maintenance checks on all equipment and maintain chemical solutions.
  • Evaluate data and inform Production, Quality Coordinator and Quality Manager when running outside of parameters.
  • Ensure by proper test that all cement leaving the plant meets specifications.
  • Run proficiency samples against other labs.
  • Record accurately and timely, data for use by management and other departments.
  • Train and direct material handlers on regular or specialized sampling or take samples when necessary.
  • Provide relief for other Lab team members (includes shift coverage, equipment maintenance, and occasional required overtime).
  • Monitor raw mix, clinker and cement production with X-ray, wet or physical analyses and oversee adjustments to proportions, admixtures, fineness, air content, and initiate corrective actions and assist in solving any problems.
  • Examine raw materials in regard to variations or potential use.
  • Train new employees to understand cement specification and be quality conscious.
  • Explain procedures or results to non-lab personnel.RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

    • Applies skills and performs work in other positions as assigned.QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESRequired Education: High School Degree and experience, or Associates/Technical DegreeAdditional Education Preferred: Bachelor's/Undergraduate DegreeField of Study Preferred: Engineering or chemistryRequired Work Experience: At least one year experience in industrial laboratory situationRequired Computer and Software Skills: General Computer proficiencyTravel Requirements: Some local travelAdditional Requirements:
      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee will frequently be required to walk on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently shovel for 3 minutes with an 8 lb. shovel, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
