Primary Purpose:The Outside Sales Representative (OSR) - Environmental Science builds profitable sales, by employing a consultative sales approach focusing on the agriculture and pest control industries. Develops and maintains a long-term partnership with customers by using industry expertise. The OSR uses Univar resources to provide solutions to customer needs and gather market intelligence. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds and sustains long-term customer partnerships, cultivates rapport with the customer, and makes the business relationship mutually beneficial.
  • Serves as a resource to customers by sharing useful information (regulations, safety, product knowledge, market trends, pricing).
  • Manages territory and accounts, and uses activity-based profitability model and segmentation strategy to spend selling time with the most profitable segments to increase margin.
  • Probes to uncover customer needs and opportunities and develops solutions to meet those needs. Evaluates needs/opportunities and matches them with Univar USA's products/services, considering the full range of options. Also uses financial analysis to develop and support the solutions.
  • Conducts effective sales calls and uses effective techniques during customer presentations, responding to questions with clear and to-the-point answers, and utilizes outside resources as necessary (manufacturers reps, specialists, etc.).
  • Uses available resources to learn about products and industries (trade journals/shows, supplier brochures/classes, supplier hot line, Univar USA experts). This includes developing knowledge of our value-added services (BCE's, PCA's, Pestweb, Insect ID, Technical Training, etc.).
  • Distinguishes Univar's product and services from the competition, keeping abreast of business and economic trends, industry trends, and the limitations and capabilities of the competitor products and services.
  • Conduct focused prospecting, using a variety of resources to locate and qualify leads. Specialized Knowledge/Skills Required:
    • Demonstrated communication and active listening skills
    • Ability to deliver information in terms customers and associates understand
    • Strong consultative selling skills
    • Ability to creatively problem-solve and negotiate effectively for win/win results
    • Skilled at customer and territory management
    • Experience with pricing and marketing strategy
    • Excellent computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint as well as CRM platforms such as Salesforce.com
    • Ag or pest control experience a plus Education/Training Required:
      • Bachelor's Degree (preferred) or equivalent work experience Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
