Job Description Summary The research specialist I will work
under general supervision by the PI and other senior lab staff, and
will be part of a basic science research laboratory that focuses on
the genetics, cell biology, and molecular pathways that are
involved in heart pathology and regeneration. The selected
individual will provide technical support for laboratory
experiments and assays, and as desired and able, will be
responsible for a supervised but independent research project. The
position requires motivated, well-organized individuals with
excellent communication and record-keeping skills. Entity Medical

Work Shift Job Description MUSC Minimum Qualifications: A high
school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or
research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or
other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for
the two years of required experience. Preferred Qualifications: A
bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other life or health
science is required. Basic competence with standard software
(Excel, Word) is expected. Prior laboratory experiences in
molecular biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, tissue
culture and/or related techniques is considered helpful. Job
Duties: Perform a range of molecular biology laboratory techniques,
under supervision by the PI and other lab staff, including DNA
isolation, polymerase chain reaction, and agarose gel
electrophoresis. Essential 35% Maintain accurate and up-to-date
laboratory records. Essential 20% Organize and communicate
experimental results. Essential 20% Perform basic lab maintenance
including making solutions and organizing laboratory supplies and

another at floor level. (Frequent) Ability to maneuver heavy
equipment on bench tops, 50 lbs. or greater, unassisted. (Frequent)
Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor
movements. (Continuous) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision,
corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to
match or discriminate between colors, normally. (Continuous)
Ability to hear and recognize various alarms emitting from work
area systems. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand
conversations. (Continuous) Ability to work in a darkroom for
processing film, etc. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified
physically for respirator use, initially and annually. (Continuous)
